Sickada the Cicadas!!!

"What's all that noise allatime?? Keepin' me awake!"
It's cicadas, Bhu. They are emerging after 13 years! When you were one year old, they went into hiding. Now they are coming back out to mate and then go back into hiding. I don't know if either of us will be here the next time they emerge! I kind of like the murmur, but it really can get a little noisy sometimes. Plus, every time I go outside, they drop from the trees into my hair and get caught.
"They would not get caught in my furs becuz I would EATS THEM!" Yes, I understand they are quite edible, Bhu, although I'm thinking I will pass on the taste test. How about you? "I will stick with Fancy Feast, thanks." Thought so! xxoo

We have a few every year or so! We have never seen that many at one time!

When my Matt was little, Ronnie delighted in chasing him around with a bucket of cicada outer shells. Poor Matt was so afraid of them. Nothing could calm him, or convince him they were empty - until we happened to see one crawling up a tree, emerging from its outer casing, and eventually leaving it behind. THEN he realized it truly was empty and he was not afraid anymore. It was magical to watch it emerge.

I haven't seen any of them yet, but I'm sure if there were to get in the house, Praline would have chased them.

I miss her!

Lawdy: we remember them from our northern days, they are NOT missed at all. Of course, they have merely been exchanged for other obnoxious critters...

PS we're making a TAG for BHU's contest and will send to you this weekend...

Ah the year of the cicadas! Wonder if they rotate as I remember them not too long ago that they were deafening! When we lived up on the hill you could go under the tree and not carry on a conversation as they were so loud! I remember when we had Spot cat. She had caught one in her mouth and sounded like a ventriloquist! It was so funny!
Haven't heard of any here yet, but will be on the look out! I had lead a sheltered life until I moved to Ohio,as there are no such thing as cicadas up there. I guess they can't survive the cold winters.
